Are Wrist Watches Losing their Popularity.

The Watch May Be Dying Out - As Many People Now Use Their Mobile Phone to Tell the Time.

It’s a sign of the times that people are not wearing watches as often as they used to wear them. Research is now showing that many people are now depending on their mobile phones more and more for their time keeping needs. A new survey indicated that 91 percent of us carry a mobile phone with us every day and that 86 percent of us own watches.
One in seven of us when asked have decided that the world could likely do without watches. These days the person most likely to have a watch on their wrist is a woman aged 55 or older, the younger generation are the least likely to adorn their wrist with a watch.
The watch industry needs to face it that the watch has become nothing more than a decorative status symbol these days and not a necessity. There is nothing that my mobile phone cannot do that my watch does. If the watch industry wishes to stay in business with the younger generation they are going to have to make some substantial changes to their products.
The younger generation loves more high tech, high end products that have more uses than telling time. Watch manufacturers need to find a way to appeal to this generation in a way that their mobile phones can’t. If watch manufactures such as Rolex, Cartier and Swatch don’t come up with a way to appeal to the younger generation they face an uncertain future. Many industry insiders suggest that the only way forward is marketing designer watches which are cheaper to make but command higher prices because of the designer name.
