Omega VS Costco

Omega the watch giant is taking Costco the US cut price superstore giant to court for selling their watches too cheap ?

Big watch companies try to control the prices of their watches by selling only to authorised dealers, however in other countries where the retail price is much lower then the wholesale price that Omega sells at to those dealers is also considerably lower....hense a grey market emerges where dealers mainly in the far east can sell watches on to companies in the west at a lower price, therefore unofficial agents can buy Omega watches at cheaper prices than they can get from Omega themselves and also sell to the public at lower prices than the official dealers !!

So what exactly can the courts do ?

Well IMO its all the fault of the watch makers (Swatch have a similar problem) amd in fact any other manufacturer that sells to different countries at different prices, as this creates unequality so its all their own making really for trying to fix prices

Cheap Adidas Watches

Those of you who buy watches on a regular basis will notice that finding the cheapest prices means not necessarily going to the manufacturers website.

Many manufacturers have their own site for selling their own watches - and you would think that this means as its their brand that they can give the lowest prices.
For example - Adidas sell watches at their own web store.. however the cheapest place in the UK to buy Adidas watches is at Watches Shop > Adidas Watches

This is because the manufacturer must stick to their own RRP, whereas independant retailers can reduce the price to whatever they want...so it means when you are looking for low prices on wrist watches then its not worth looking at the manufacturers shops, and instead looking for independent retailers.

Mont Blanc Metamorphosis

Those of us who have heard of Mont Blanc are probably surprised to hear that they have launched a new and weird watch - the Metamorphosis - named because of the way it changes.

Mont Blanc the French company famous for its expensive pens have really put a lot of thought into this watch and with only 28 made its probably more of a publicity drive that actually the launch of a new model...looks like they have gone to overkill on the design, although its probably the most precision engineered watch ever made.



What is the price of the Mont Blanc Metamorphosis Watch ?
It may seem far to gimmicky, but with only 28 made they are sure to be on the shopping list of most billionaires!! I wouldn't say no to one, but will probably never be able to afford it at the price of 195,000 Euros !

O Clock

For years we have all used the expression "O clock" when it comes to telling the time, but what does the O mean ? What does the O stand for in O clock ?

Its actually a shortening of "of the clock" as in 8 of the clock, it probably originated in the North Yorkshire region of the UK,, and used in the same way that they use t' to sub substitute "to the"..eg "I'm just going t' shop"

Is it worth buying a replica watch ?

Nowadays there are so many websites that sell replica watches from all the leading brands, such as Rolex, Omega, Jaeger Lecoultre, Patek Philippe etc.... I have owned some of these replica watches myself a few times, I once had a great fake Cartier watch, and it lasted a good 3 years and definitely looked the part, so I don't blame anyone for buying a replica watch...the problem is though that there seems to be no online morals about replica watches.

Ok we know you can buy them by the dozen at dodgy markets in Bangkok like Patpong but to me thats the way it should always be, just a factory owner stamping on the word Rolex and a few stallholders trying to make an extra few Baht...but when you look at internet behavior for replica watches you will see that many "respectable" sites are making money through the advertising of replica watches and as they are supposed to be illegal then I wonder who is doing anything about it ?

Just google replica Rolex and you will get loads of websites selling fakes and when you find forums and blogs that use content driven advertising then many times then the word Rolex is on the page you get a banner advert saying Buy Fake Rolex from $49 !

Rotary Lifetime Guarantee

As I mentioned in an earlier posting Rotary are offering a lifetime guarantee on all of their watches, however all is not what it seems. If you read the smal print you will see that the watch needs to be serviced every 3 years by an official Rotary service centre, heres a link to the conditions on the Rotary Website

I've never owned a Rotary watch before, so I am not sure about the costs involved for the watch to be serviced. If you own a Rotary watch and have paid to have it serviced them let us know how much it costs. Anyway worst case is that you don't pay for the servicing....so at least it means you get a 3 year guarantee, and if the servicing costs say £30 then that will be £10 per year for the next three years so will be worth it, especially for the expensive Rotary models like the 9ct gold ones.

Search engines are funny things, no matter how much you search for something you always get what they think you want and not what you really want. Its funny that in Bing when you search for 'watches' you get all sorts of results, they don't know what you are looking for, and divide the page into sections, eg Watch Shows, Watch Jobs, Watch Schedule...

The search was watches...there are no other words there, how on earth can loads of results for jobs appear on the page, I can understand the TV, but surely nobody will search 'watches tv' it will probably be 'watch tv'...anyway I'm off to search through some Mens Watches as I have to get one for my brothers birthday....not sure whether to get him a cheap digital quartz watch or a nice designer swiss automatic
