Nazi Watch Inspires Play

If you bought a second hand watch from a shop you would surely not expect that you could uncover a piece of Nazi history.

But that's exactly what happened to one Laurence Marks recently in Los Angeles. He bought what he thought was just a normal antique watch from a dealer in from a Los Angeles shop in 1993, and didn't think it was anything special.

However, when in 2002 he took it to a repair shop for repairs the watch repairer noticed a very tiny inscription "JVR 1930" with a small Swastika.

After doing a little bit of further research he found out that the watch had once been owned by Joachim von Ribbentrop, a Nazi and sympathiser of Adolf Hitler.

After finding this out he was inspired to write a play about it, which is called Von Ribbentrop's Watch, the play can be seen at the Oxford Playhouse from September this year... although can't see how just one small instance like that could turn into an entire play ?
